A Comic Book Christmas

December 6, 2017

How do your favorite comic book characters spend the Holidays? PHS Editor Maya Kesh looks at how Superman spent the Holiday Season back in the early 1990s.

I myself don't celebrate Christmas. However, I've always enjoyed seeing how my favorite comic book characters marked the season.

One of the more interesting ways took place in the early 1990s in the Superman titles. We were given a window in to how Superman would spend the holidays. Of course he would visit his parents and spend down time with Lois Lane. What else did he do? Well we learn he visited the Post Office and read letters people sent him. Not unlike people writing to Santa ClausHe would then try to fulfill people's wishes as best he could and the asks would range from the selfish to the heartbreaking.

Superman has mixed feelings about these letters.  For good reason.

But then there were moments like this where he could do something to help.

The story ends with Superman solving a problem close to home.

He called Bruce Wayne and asked him to buy the toys if you're wondering where they came from.  And instead of showing up as Superman? He provides propulsion for Santa's sleigh.

And there you have it!  I hope everyone has a wonderful Holiday season no matter what you celebrate.
