PHS Forum Rules
Welcome to the PHS Community, we're so happy to have you join us!
In order to ensure the time you spend on our site is fun and trouble free, we ask that you take the time to read these rules and check out our Privacy Policy

  • First of all. Don't Be Shy! We want to help and encourage your writing in any way we can, so your comments, feedback and suggestions to improve the site are important.

  • Be Positive. Supporting your fellow aspiring authors and offering advice where you can is a big part of the reason we are all here. That's not to say there won't be times people feel a little low or contemplate giving up. What we're saying is, particularly when someone feels that way, a positive attitude, a 'you can do it' comment, cyber hugs or even just a reply to say you've been there and got through it, can make a huge difference.

  • Sharing Information. If you've read an article or a book or a Blog you found helpful, don't be afraid to share the link so we can all read it. This is doubly important if you are quoting anything. We don't want to get an email complaining something copyrighted has been stolen. Of course, when it comes to any info or workshops you find helpful on this site or in our Facebook Group, we are more than happy if you want to share the love far and wide on your Social Media and/or to writer friends!

  • All Images Must Have Relevant Rights. If you post a pic on any of the boards it must be royalty free from a site like Pexels or Pixabay, owned by you or have it's use paid for through a site like Shutterstock or IStock. (See above about email complaints).

  • Don't Share Private Information. We mention this in our Privacy Policy, but it's worth mentioning again. Never share personal details, such as your full legal name, home address or date of birth with a fellow community/Forum member in a public post. Any information of this kind will immediately be deleted by our site moderators. We would also strongly advise against sharing your email address or contacting someone who has posted their email address in a public post, unless you are certain of the identity of the person who has requested/posted it.

  • Be Respectful. We don’t all see things the same way but at the PHS we fully embrace diverse voices. Entering into a discussion is fine, just ensure you respect the fact that people have different personal experiences and points of view and, if uncertain what the person meant, seek further clarification. If we feel things are getting heated, a moderator will step in. If you encounter a post that upsets you, report it. Repeated infractions will lead to a warning. If the infractions continue, it will result in a temporary ban.  If the problem remains when the temporary ban is lifted, the next ban will be permanent.

  • Racism, Sexism, Homophobia, Baiting, Bullying & Trolling or anything of that ilk will NOT be tolerated on our site. If you encounter any of this before one of our moderators catch it, please report the post immediately. ONE infraction is all it will take for a permanent ban to be issued.

  • Round Robin Copyrights. Whether posted in our Facebook Group or on the forum, the starting point of the Round Robin game is copyrighted by our Managing Editor, Trish Wylie, or the author whose name we quote on the graphic. Continuations of the story, from that point on, belong to the authors who post them and at no time in the future will the entire, completed story, minus the starting point or with a new intro, be published by any individual for financial gain.

  • Workshop Copyrights. The workshops on our site are copyrighted by the author who is running them. Short excerpts and quotes in graphics which we use on our Social Media are permitted for promotional purposes only.

  • Plagiarism. If posting excerpts from a WIP for feedback from our members, the content should be original. Anything discovered to be a an infringement of copyright will result in a permanent ban from the site.

  • Constructive Criticism. If you offer feedback on an excerpt, synopsis or pitch, make sure it is constructive. No-one likes having their work torn apart. Just imagine how you would feel if someone did it to you!

  • Politics & Religion. This falls under the remit of respecting differing opinions. But rather than risk upsetting anyone, we prefer neither subject be discussed in the forum. Infractions will lead to a warning. If repeated, a temporary ban will be instated. If it happens again after the temporary ban is lifted, it will result in a permanent ban.

  • Arguments & Publisher Issues. The PHS is not the place for anyone to continue an argument which is raging elsewhere or trash a publisher. When it comes to the latter, informing our members a line or publishing house has closed is a different matter, but even then, we prefer you approach the subject in a professional manner. If you had a bad experience with a publisher and wish to share it as a cautionary tale, the publisher's name should not be mentioned. Infractions will lead to a warning from one of our moderators. If repeated, a temporary ban will be instated. If it happens again after the temporary ban is lifted, it will result in a permanent ban.

  • Moderators Rule! All our moderators are volunteers. They are here to help. They don't enjoy issuing warnings or bans and are as keen to make new friends and learn from their fellow aspiring authors as everyone else. Without them, we couldn't run our forum. So, please be nice to them! If uncertain why you have been issued a warning or a temporary ban, send a message to us via email or using the contact form and we will get back to you.

If you would like to leave our community/Forum at any time,  simply send an email to or use the contact form below. When we receive your request, we will delete all of your details and posts from the site in a timely manner.

Success! Message received.
